What shipped

Every launch, dated. Each row is a product moment you can open in the app.

  1. Workspace

Aperture, the typeface everything is set in

font.design now has one face: Aperture — Inter, instanced at a text and a display optical size and made ours, the way the product tells you to start from a great base. Thirty-six styles, and it is open on the Community with Inter credited.

    • Aperture: Inter (OFL) with Helvetica-leaning alternates as the defaults, two optical sizes, nine weights with italics, Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese — imported as a file with every kerning class, published under the OFL.
    • The whole site and the app's own chrome are set in it: the text cut for reading and the interface, the display cut for headlines.
    • Import a family: drop every style's file at once and they land in one family; add a style to an existing family from the editor's rail.
    • A “Made with font.design” badge for sites that use a published specimen's hosted font — on by default, one switch in Publish to turn it off.

  2. WorkspaceBeta

    The Community

Publish a font for everyone, or open one someone else made — as your own file, under the SIL Open Font License.

    • Publish to Community from a font's Publish panel: name it, set its cover in its own outlines, claim your team's @handle.
    • Browse by category, search by name, tag or creator; every resource page sets the font from its real outlines.
    • Open in Font Design copies the font into your team with its license chain intact; likes and opens show on the resource.

  3. SpecimenBeta

    Specimen is a file

Publish a page for any font: a public URL, the page you design, and hosted font.css on Pro.

    • Start one from a font's Share or Publish panel, or from New specimen.
    • Hero and sample text, tagline, theme and sections — the page you edit is the page that publishes.
    • Publish… gives it a URL of your choosing; Pro pages also serve font.css and font.woff2 for any site.

  4. DirectionPreview

    Direction is a file

Directions now live beside your fonts: their own editor, autosave, Share, and Create font.

    • Start a direction from any chassis on the New direction page — free and unlimited.
    • The brief, presets and axes on the left; the wordmark, product UI and marketing contexts live in the centre.
    • Directions show in Recents, Drafts, projects and Trash like any other file.

  5. FontNew

    Code mode

The editor's Dev Mode: what ships in your kit, the @font-face it contains, and install guides for six stacks.

    • Design · Kern · Code on the pill; the inspector's Install tab follows.
    • Next.js, plain CSS, Webflow, Framer, Wix, Figma & Adobe guides, written for your kit's files, with copy buttons.
    • Plan-honest: a Free team sees exactly which formats it gets and where TTF + OTF unlock.

  6. Font

    The editor's new frame

Menus, a file-name menu, Share and Publish split, a pill with modes, and a tabbed inspector.

    • The logo menu maps every action: File, Edit, View, Glyph, Kern, Help.
    • Rename, Duplicate, Move to… and trash from the file name.
    • Adjust (tracking, spacing, width, slant) lives in the inspector's Design tab.
See it in the app →
  7. Workspace

    Files have kinds

Font and Direction chips beside Create, product marks on every card, a Templates page and strip.

    • One Create menu lists the file kinds you can start.
    • Templates: design spaces to start a direction, Google families to open as a font.
    • The team row shows your plan.
